Pictures indeed are worth a thousand words! “Auctionaire” footage from 3,000 ft reveal a snapshot of 2019 unharvested corn, a scene repeated over hundreds of miles and thousands of acres in the Dakotas and Minnesota. The meandering Maple River west of the Red River and Fargo, North Dakota, surrounded by farm fields and a blanket of snow, may play a role in a potential spring flood. Is a major flood likely? Odds are it will be a significant event. Is the corn worth saving? Yes. Certain varieties of corn hold up better than others under these conditions but freezing rain, snow and wind can reduce yields. The 2019 harvest in the Northern Plains will go down in history as one of the most challenging ever. As always we lean into a new year with hope and confidence that this year will be better!
